3 successive earthquakes rock Ilocos Sur


VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur – Three successive earthquakes rocked this province on Sunday morning, March 9.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said no damage was recorded from these tremors.

The first earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4 was felt at 8:18 a.m. Its epicenter was located seven kilometers northwest of Langiden, Abra with a depth of six kilometers. It was recorded at Intensity 3 in Sinait, Ilocos Sur.

The second earthquake with a magnitude of 3.3 occurred at 8:33 a.m. Its epicenter was eight kilometers northwest of Langiden with a depth of seven kilometers. It was felt Intensity 3 in Sinait, Ilocos Sur.

The third earthquake with a magnitude of 3.1 occurred three minutes at 8:36 a.m. Its epicenter was seven kilometers northwest of San Quintin, Abra with a depth of two kms. No intensity was recorded.

These earthquakes were tectonic in origin and no aftershocks are expected.

PDRRMO head Rhon Arquelada said they remain on alert for another earthquake.
