National Nutrition Council recognizes Muntinlupa LGU

The National Nutrition Council (NNC), the Philippines’ highest policy-making and coordinating agency on nutrition, recognized the Muntinlupa City government for its nutrition action plan.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led in recognizing high-performing local government units (LGUs) and local nutrition focal points at the 2024 National Nutrition Awarding Ceremony held on March 7 at the Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria, Quezon City.

“This is a moment for reflection, recognition, and renewed determination in our pursuit of a stronger and healthier Bagong Pilipinas. To our awardees, once again, we commend your dedication, your initiatives, and commitment to improve the lives of the most vulnerable in our society,” President Marcos said at the ceremony.

Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon received the certificate of recognition at the NNC awarding ceremony.

The Muntinlupa city government was given the recognition “for successfully maintaining the Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (Crown) Award the first year through the efficient and effective implementation and management of its City Nutrition Program which resulted to the improvement of the nutrition situation in City of Muntinlupa especially among young children.”

Assistant Secretary Dr. Azucena Milana-Dayanghirang, NNC Executive Director IV, said the ceremony was held “to honor the local government units and local nutrition focal points who have demonstrated excellence in managing their respective nutrition programs throughout 2023. Simply put, today is a celebration of the ‘best of the best’ in public nutrition service.”

Biazon said the Crown Award is given to LGUs “that have consistently received the Green Banner Award for three consecutive years.”

Muntinlupa received the Crown Award in 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2022 that resulted in the LGU getting the 1st Year Crown Maintenance Award in 2023.

“Now that we are in our first year of maintenance, mas determined tayo na palakasin pa ang ating efforts para sa mga susunod na taon. Our next challenge is to sustain this excellence and aim for the Nutrition Honor Award (NHA)—ang highest recognition na ibinibigay ng NNC sa LGUs na may exceptional and sustained performance sa nutrition program management,” said Biazon.

He thanked the City Nutrition Committee, headed by Dr. Magdalena Meana, health workers, and community partners.
