De La Salle recovered from a second set stumble to overcome a resilient University of the East, 25-12, 23-25, 25-14, 25-17, for its second straight win in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament at Mall of Asia Arena Saturday, March 8.

Despite failing to contain the Lady Warriors in the second frame, the Lady Spikers managed to maintain their poise and recover to improve their record to 3-2.
As expected, Angel Canino steered La Salle with 20 points -- her third straight game in double figures -- built on 14 attacks, three blocks and three aces. She also had 10 excellent digs and 10 excellent receptions.
Alleiah Malaluan added 12 points even as Jyne Soreno, who came off the bench, chipped in 12 points including nine in the third set, igniting La Salle's onslaught after faltering in the second frame.
La Salle coach Ramil De Jesus, however, was not impressed with the win, according to deputy coach Noel Orcullo.
“Hindi naging maganda nung game eh. Although we won, hindi yun yung gusto naming makita sa kanila,” said Orcullo.
“Nag-relax sila eh. Parang hindi nila nirespesto yung UE, na hinihintay nilang magkamali o aayaw na [yung UE], so yun [dahilan] bakit nagagalit si coach (Ramil de Jesus),” he added.
Nessa Bangayan led UE with 17 points, but her efforts went futile as the Lady Warriors fell to their sixth straight game. It also did not help that Khy Cepada was limited to eight points.
In men’s action, FEU displayed poise and survived Adamson’s third-set rally, 25-23, 25-20, 31-29, to clinch its sixth straight win.

The Tamaraws banked on Dryx Saavedra and rookie Mikko Espartero in delivering timely hits to overcome a 21-17 third-set deficit en route to the win to keep their record unblemished on top of the leaderboard.
FEU assistant coach Rene Dulay credited the team’s chemistry in the win.
“Yung team chemistry namin yung nag-develop dun kaya nakahabol, ibig sabihin ‘yong team talagang nagma-mature na,” he said.
Saavedra rose to the occasion and notched 18 points built on 14 attacks and four blocks, while Espartero added 14 points and eight excellent receptions.
The Falcons slipped to 2-4 despite Jude Aguilar topscoring for 16 points.
Meanwhile, De La Salle downed a depleted UE side, 26-24, 25-13, 25-23, for 3-2.
MJ Fortuna and Vince Maglinao led with 13 and 11 points, respectively for the Green Spikers, who bounced back from a 24-20 first-set deficit before claiming the frame that set the tone throughout the match.
UE slipped to its sixth defeat in as many games despite Roy Piojo scoring 10 points.
