KBL: Alvano, Spellman effort goes for naught as Wonju yields to Ulsan

Despite coming from a gallant 67-63 win over Carl Tamayo and Changwon last Monday, the Promy couldn’t ride the momentum as they trailed from start to finish, with the Phoebus firing from all cylinders and lead ballooning to 22, 83-61, in the second half.

It proved to be enough to take the fight out of Alvano and Wonju.

Gaige Prim spearheaded Ulsan’s offense with 21 points while his four other teammates also registered double-digit outputs.

Spellman, a former Golden State big man, tallied 25 points and 12 rebounds while Alvano scattered 20 points, five rebounds, four assists and one steal in a losing cause for Wonju.

The Promy endured their 23rd defeat against 19 wins at sixth place while the Phoebus improved to 25-16, leveling with the LG Sakers in the standings.

Former UAAP stars and Gilas standouts Tamayo and Kevin Quiambao try to rally their respective clubs back to the winning track against their separate foes on Friday, March 7.

Tamayo and Changwon square off with SJ Belangel and the Daegu KOGAS Pegasus (22-19).

The Sakers are coming from back-to-back losses, bowing to Anyang and Wonju in the last two games, while the Pegasus suffered a tight loss to JD Cagulangan and the Suwon KT Sonicboom, 75-74.

Following his stellar performances for their past few games, Quiambao aims to carry the Goyang Skygunners as they face the league-leading Seoul SK Knights (34-8).
