Following the success of the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i and Seal 5 DM-I, BYD Cars Philippines and ACMobility continue to offer Filipinos fuel efficient mobility solutions, this time in the form of a pickup.
The highly-anticipated Shark 6 DMO launches today, equipped with an electric powertrain and Dual Mode Off-road (DMO) technology. Being a PHEV, the Shark 6 uses a combination of internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric motors and battery to provide drivers with instant torque, reduced fuel consumption, and lower emissions, all in the practical form of a pickup truck.
Hybrid pickup
The Shark 6 DMO is designed for those seeking the same enhanced performance and fuel efficiency found in the Sealion and Seal, but in a vehicle with utility and off-road capabilities. Unlike the other DM-i models, the Shark 6 DMO is more rugged in design with its boxy styling, aggressive façade, and commanding presence on the road.
Powering the Shark 6 DMO is a 1.5-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine that generates 184-PS and 260-Nm of torque. This engine is paired with two electric motors — one in front producing 231-PS and 310-Nm, and another at the rear generating 204-PS and 340-Nm. The electric motors draw power from a 29.58 kWh BYD Blade LFP battery, offering an electric-only range of up to 100 km based on NEDC standards. These allow the Shark 6 DMO to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds.
With a full tank of fuel and fully-charged battery, the Shark 6 DMO can drive up to 800-km. ACMobility says their own testing under observation by the AAP has yielded an even longer range of 1114-km.
Together, these power sources provide a combined output of 436-PS and 650-Nm of torque. Power is managed through a single-speed reduction gear transmission, while an e-AWD (electric all-wheel-drive) system ensures optimal traction across various surfaces.
Capable off-roader
The Shark 6 isn’t just a great hybrid but also a capable off-roader. It’s fitted with double wishbone suspension on all four wheels, granting each one fully independent movement as well as a more comfortable ride. This set up gives it a massive 230mm of ground clearance as well as a high water-wading depth of 700 mm. It can take on steep inclines and descents thanks to the sheer torque from the electric motors while also controlling ascent and descent with hill hold assist and hill descent control. Built-in drive modes for snow, sand, mud, and gravel also give it versatility over a variety of terrain types.
Plan to take it camping? The Shark 6 DMO comes with a Vehicle-2-Load (V2L) feature that allows you to plug small appliances or devices using power from the battery. It can produce power equivalent to 97 solar panels, turning your camping experience into a glamping core memory.
Luxury comforts
The Shark 6 also excels when it comes to providing passenger comfort. Like all BYD’s it has a tilting center LCD screen. Built in cameras give it 360-degrees of vision in a wide variety of preset angles and views to aid parking or off-roading. The driver and passenger get well-upholstered vented and heated seats. The tailgate even has a soft open function, dropping it down gently with the push of a button. In addition, owners get a conventional key fob as well as an NFC key card to unlock and start the car.
Safety
Buyers can expect the same high-level of safety features like ABS, traction control, airbags, as well as Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) like adaptive cruise control, autonomous braking, and lane-keeping assist. In addition, the Shark 6 was recently awarded a perfect five-star safety rating by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).
Easy maintenance
BYD Cars is also making the Shark 6 easy to maintain with just once-a-year PMS schedules amounting to a total of just under P100,000 over five years.
“The arrival of the BYD Shark 6 DMO signifies BYD’s dedication to providing game-changing vehicles that transform the way we move,” said Bob Palanca, Managing Director of BYD Cars Philippines. “This electrified lifestyle pickup combines power, technology, performance, and sustainability, offering adventure-seekers a new kind of driving experience.”
Reservations for the BYD Shark 6 DMO are now open at BYD dealerships nationwide. Pricing and specifications will be revealed at the official launch event later today.
For those interested in driving the pickup, the brand will hold the two-day BYD Experience Electric Expo at Aseana City, beside Ayala Malls by the Bay. ACMobility has prepared a 4x4 track to test the vehicle on. Called the Experience Electric Expo, it will be open to the public from 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM on March 8 - 9, 2025.
