Memorandum No. MO-2025-03-03 addressed to all public and private schools covers the period from March 7 to 14 and aims to ensure the health and safety of students and teachers.
This latest directive reinforces a previous memorandum (No. MO-2025-03-02), which temporarily suspended face-to-face classes and transitioned to online and asynchronous learning for students due to high heat index in Santa Maria.
In coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd), Ramos announced that face-to-face classes will be adjusted to 6 a.m. to 11 a.m., covering all teaching activities, including examinations and assessments.
The students then will continue their lessons through online or asynchronous learning from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to avoid the extreme afternoon heat.
The mayor also advised the students, teachers, and school staff to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, and wear appropriate sun protection such as hats and light clothing.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) will continue to monitor the heat index and provide updates as needed.
He assured the public that safety remains the top priority and encouraged residents in need of further assistance or information to contact the Mayor’s Office or the MDRRMO for guidance.
