DICT confirms Uy's resignation, assures public of continued services

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on Friday, March 7, confirmed the resignation of Secretary Ivan John E. Uy, saying President Marcos had accepted his resignation on March 6.

 

In a statement, the DICT lauded Uy’s contributions in advancing the country’s digitalization efforts, particularly in the rollout of major government technology initiatives.

 

“As the third Secretary of DICT, Secretary Uy supported President Marcos’ call for digitalization, spearheading the rollout of game-changing government solutions such as the eGovPH App, eTravel, eLGU, and eReport,” DICT Assistant Secretary for Legal Affairs and Spokesperson Renato A. Paraiso stated.

 

The DICT, meanwhile, assured the public that the agency’s services would remain unaffected despite the leadership transition.

 

“The DICT assures the public that there will be no disruption in its services amid the leadership transition. The Department looks forward to welcoming its new Officer-in-Charge who will complete President Marcos’ vision of an inclusive and innovative Bagong Pilipinas for all,” said Paraiso.

 

His leadership, according to the agency, also oversaw the expansion of the Free Public Internet Access Program, which now has over 16,000 active sites nationwide—the program’s widest reach since the passage of the Free Internet Access in Public Places Act in 2017.

 

It added that Uy also played a key role in issuing an updated National Cybersecurity Plan and improving the Philippines’ global standing in government digital transformation, cybersecurity, and connectivity.

 

On Thursday night, March 6, Palace Press Officer and Undersecretary Claire Castro confirmed Uy's resignation.

 

Malacañang, however, did not disclose Uy’s reason for his resignation.

 

The Palace has yet to announce Uy’s replacement.
