The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has commended the management of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for designating two bays for persons with disabilities (PWDs) and opening the main arrival curbside to all passengers, not only for those considered as very important persons (VIPs).
Designated by NAIA are its Bays A8 and A9 for PWDs and its Terminal 1's main arrival curbside for all passengers.

In a statement, the CHR said that NAIA's initiatives to make transportation accessible to all passengers is currently in their soft launch phase.
The CHR said: "We look forward to its full implementation, as it has the potential to remove barriers that limit their mobility and opportunity to travel. Opening the main arrival curbside is also expected to improve traffic flow at the airport while enhancing ease and comfort for all passengers."
It also said: "Ensuring that persons with disabilities can travel with dignity and ease affirms our commitment to upholding their rights and promoting equal opportunities for all."
It acknowledged that air travel has become an essential mode of transportation for all Filipinos, and they use it for leisure, work, or studies.
"With airports playing a vital role in daily life, it is important to address whatever inconveniences Filipino passengers might face - especially those with mobility concerns," it said.
"Airport services and facilities should align with the principles of accessibility and inclusivity, ensuring equal opportunities while balancing business interests with human rights considerations," it stressed.
As the NAIA administration took this crucial step in prioritizing the welfare of PWDs and other vulnerable sectors, the CHR expressed hopes that "other stakeholders -- including other government agencies, civil society organizations, and the private sector -- will also follow suit and implement sustainable programs that will uphold the rights and dignity of all."
