Deputy Speaker and Las Piñas Rep. Camille Villar is intensifying her engagement with young voters, emphasizing her commitment to legislative reforms that benefit grassroots communities and the marginalized sector.

Speaking before members of the Liga ng mga Barangay Romblon Chapter in Cebu City on Wednesday, March 5, Villar reaffirmed her dedication to pushing for measures that would improve the welfare of barangay workers. She recognized the crucial role they play in ensuring the efficient delivery of government services at the community level.

“I see and understand the challenges you face every day. You inspire me to work even harder to serve the public,” Villar said. She also highlighted her vision of bringing fresh ideas to the Senate, representing the millennial generation while valuing the wisdom of veteran lawmakers.

At 40, Villar believes her perspective aligns with the needs of the country’s growing youth sector, which comprises around 70 percent of the nation’s 115 million population, according to World Health Organization data.

Earlier in the week, Villar met with barangay leaders in Iloilo and Palawan and also connected with representatives of marginalized communities. In Capiz, she reiterated her call for stricter enforcement of laws protecting farmers from unfair trade practices and economic exploitation.

“There are many well-crafted laws, but they must be implemented effectively,” she stressed, citing the Anti-Economic Sabotage Law as an example.

If elected to the Senate in the upcoming midterm elections, Villar pledged to maximize the Senate’s oversight functions to ensure proper enforcement of laws related to agriculture, corruption prevention, and economic policies.
 

With 15 years of experience in both the public and private sectors, Villar expressed confidence that she can deliver more meaningful reforms. “May nagawa na, marami pang magagawa (Much has been accomplished, but there is still much more to do),” she declared.
