In celebration of Women's Month, Makati City Mayor and senatorial candidate Abby Binay on Friday, March 7, urged the country to embrace more women in leadership roles, both in government and the private sector.

Binay stated this as she acknowledged the country's progress but pointed out that women are still underrepresented in public office and the corporate world, which remains male-dominated.

"As a woman, I believe we need more female leaders. While the Philippines has made progress, we still lack enough women serving in public office and leading in the corporate world, which remains male-dominated," she said.

The mayor expressed hope that her run for national office, together with other women in Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas, will inspire more women to take leadership roles.

“If we can do it, so can you,” she stated.

Binay emphasized that women have the ability to juggle multiple roles and do them all successfully.

“Even as mothers, we can balance family and a career while serving our country. Iyon po ang gusto naming ipakita na kahit na meron na kaming pamilya, p’wede at kayang balansehin ang pamilya at ang paglilingkod sa bayan (That’s what we want to show, that even with a family, we can balance both family life and serving the country)," Binay explained.

As the city mayor, she has introduced programs for women, including free Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccines and newborn nursing kits. She has also initiated health programs that offer free vitamins, supplements, and maintenance medications, which have greatly benefited the city’s female residents.
