Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas campaign manager Navotas City lone district Rep. Toby Tiangco says the Marcos administration’s direction is clear amid the slowing inflation in the country.

“The President’s marching orders are clear: ensure that Filipino families have access to affordable goods,” Tiangco said in a statement Thursday, March 6.

"Walang magugutom at walang maiiwan. Makakaasa po ang ating mga kababayan na patuloy ang pamahalaan sa pagpapatupad ng mga programang magpapababa sa presyo ng mga bilihin," he added.

(Nobody will go hungry or get left behind. Our countrymen can depend on the government to implement programs that would lower the prices of goods.)

The government had reported the continued drop in inflation rate, which slowed from 2.9 percent in January to 2.1 percent in February this year.

Tiangco noted how the government’s proactive interventions, like reducing the maximum suggested retail price (MSRP) for imported rice and the enactment of the Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage Act, led to lowering inflation.

“Government interventions are working, but we must not be complacent. Moving forward, we urge our partners in various government agencies to sustain this momentum and continue implementing strategies that will maintain stable prices of food and other commodities,” he said.

According to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), the downtrend in overall inflation was primarily influenced by the lower year-on-year growth rate of the heavily-weighted food and non-alcoholic beverages.

"Lower food prices will help households allocate more for their other essential needs," Tiangco further said.

The veteran congressman chairs the House Committee on Information and Communications Technology.
