Religious group marches inside subdivision in Cebu

CEBU CITY – A group of foreigners stirred social media when they marched inside a subdivision in Minglanilla town, Cebu province on Tuesday, March 4.

Police quickly  allayed fears, saying the foreigners were members of a religious performing an annual tradition.

The foreigners clad in dark clothing marched  inside the Minglanilla Highlands.

Police Major Mark Don Alfred Leanza, chief of the Minglanilla Police Station, said the  61 foreigners belonged to "Those in need of Father" religious group.

The leader of the group was identified as  Derick Curry II, an American. Other members of the group were British and Jamaicans.

The march was uploaded on social media.

Leanza said the group was celebrating its second anniversary that day.

The group decided to march inside the subdivision as their place of worship in Talisay City was still under renovation.

“They chose to hold the march inside the subdivision because they wanted a silent place since they were also singing while marching,” said Leanza.

Leanza said the foreigners were not armed. They had  flags with Hebrew characters.

It was learned that the group’s leader has been living in the subdivision for a year.

The group admitted they did not ask permission from the homeowners association but they informed the security personnel of their activity.
