The Malabon City government announced on Thursday, March 6, that it will implement a 30-minute "heat stroke break" for traffic enforcers due to extreme heat.
According to the city's Public Information Office (PIO), the policy will take effect on Friday, March 7, and will remain in place until further notice to protect on-duty traffic enforcers from heat stroke and other heat-related illnesses.
The local government also urged personnel to immediately seek medical assistance from the City Health Department or the nearest hospital if they experience symptoms of heat-related illnesses.
Traffic enforcers assigned to the 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. shift will have their break from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. or 10:30 to 11 a.m.
Meanwhile, those on the 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. shift will take their break from 2:30 to 3 p.m. or 3 to 3:30 p.m.
This initiative aims to ensure the safety and well-being of the city's traffic enforcers as they work under extreme weather conditions.
The city government also advised the public to take precautions against heat-related illnesses by staying hydrated, wearing protective gear, and seeking shade when necessary.
Anyone experiencing dizziness, nausea, excessive sweating, or rapid heartbeat should seek medical attention immediately.
