The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the heat index in four areas in Luzon reached “danger” levels on Thursday, March 6.
The heat index in Dagupan City peaked at 45 degrees Celsius (°C), while it reached 42°C in Iba, Zambales; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; and Cuyo, Palawan.
The heat index combines air temperature and relative humidity to estimate the apparent temperature, or how hot it feels to the human body.
A heat index between 42 to 51°C is considered dangerous, as heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely, and heatstroke is probable with continued exposure.
On March 7, PAGASA said a heat index of 42°C could be recorded in Dagupan City, Pangasinan; Iba, Zambales; Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; and Cuyo, Palawan.
On March 8, a heat index of 42°C could also be recorded in Iba, Zambales; San Ildefonso, Bulacan; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; and Cuyo, Palawan.
