Mayor Arthur Robes announced the suspension in accordance with DepEd Order No. 22, Series of 2024, which provides guidelines on class and work suspension during disasters and emergencies.

Robes explained that the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) recommended the suspension to ensure the safety and wellbeing of students and teachers, as the heat index is expected to reach 40 degrees Celsius.

To prevent disruptions in learning, the Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) of Learning will be implemented, allowing students to complete performance-based tasks, projects, and make-up classes at home.

For private schools, the decision to suspend face-to-face classes is left to the discretion of school officials, provided they can ensure proper ventilation and a safe learning environment for students and teachers.

The mayor also urged the public to take extra precautions against the extreme heat and to stay hydrated.
