The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday, March 6 said a weak northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” may only affect Batanes, while the warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, or the “easterlies,” will remain the dominant weather system in the country.
In its weather forecast for Thursday, PAGASA said the amihan will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains to Batanes.
Meanwhile, Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the easterlies. Residents in these areas are advised to remain vigilant due to the possibility of flash floods or landslides, particularly during moderate to heavy rainfall.
PAGASA said the easterlies will also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the rest of the country.
It warned that flash floods or landslides may also occur during severe thunderstorms.
