The city government of Manila announced that all face-to-face afternoon classes in public and private schools, from preschool to senior high school, will be suspended on Friday, March 7, due to the ongoing rise in temperature.

According to the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the forecasted heat index for tomorrow will range from 29 degrees celsius to 35 degrees celsius during the morning from 8 am. to 11 a.m.

By noon, the temperature is expected to rise dramatically, reaching up to 43 degrees celsius at 2 p.m.

Private schools and higher educational institutions are advised to make their own decisions regarding the suspension of their afternoon classes.

They are encouraged to prioritize the well-being of their students, ensuring their safety during both travel to and from school.

This decision aims to strike a balance between continuing education while safeguarding students from the health risks posed by extreme temperatures.

The local government urges all students, parents, and educational institutions to stay vigilant and prepared for the heat, as the high temperatures are expected to persist.
