Two women arrested in Quiapo for selling abortion pills
Two women were arrested in Quiapo, Manila for selling unregistered misoprostol tablets which are known to be abortion pills on Tuesday, March 4.
The arrest occurred at 3:06 p.m. during a follow-up operation conducted by the Manila Police District's District Intelligence Division (MPD-DID).
The suspects were identified as Merlita Cayanan, 65, a widow from Quezon City, and Veronica Borja, 56, from Quiapo, Manila.
The women were caught selling Rotec Tablet Misoprostol, an unregistered drug product.
The seized evidence included four blister packs of Rotec Misoprostol tablets, a P500 bill, a sachet containing eight small white tablets, and a paper with instructions on how to take the tablets.
The suspects will be charged for violation of the Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009 or Republic Act 9711 and are now detained at the MPD Custodial Facility.
The operation is part of the MPD's ongoing crackdown on illegal drugs to protect public health.
Authorities urged the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities involving unregistered pharmaceutical products.
