'A big lie': Suarez slams fake news on rejected AFP subsistence allowance

A ranking congressman has joined the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in condemning the fake news that the government rejected an increase in soldiers’ daily subsistence allowance,

Quezon 2nd district Rep. David "Jay-jay" Suarez called the false reports "a blatant deception meant to mislead troops and the public".

“This is a budol, a big lie! These false claims deceive our soldiers and undermine their trust in the government. But the truth is clear—this increase is funded, secured, and guaranteed under the 2025 budget,” Suarez said.

Suarez raised alarm on the misinformation even as the House of Representatives, through the tri-committee (tri-comm), launched an investigation on fake news peddling online.

“We won’t let lies undermine our soldiers. The funding is secured, the commitment is strong, and they will get what they deserve,” Suarez said, as he recalled that it was Speaker Martin Romualdez, following the President’s instruction, who pushed for the inclusion of increased daily subsistence allowance for soldiers from P150 to P350 or P10,500 monthly in this year’s national budget.

Suarez says those spreading disinformation are endangering the welfare of uniformed personnel.

The AFP refuted the misleading claims, and confirmed that the P350 increase was included in the 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA). It will be implemented as planned.

The military urged soldiers and the public to rely only on official announcements. They also warned that disinformation causes confusion and undermines morale within the ranks.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the well-being of uniformed personnel and ensuring they receive their rightful benefits.

Suarez called out the deliberate spread of falsehoods, and said that it disrespects the sacrifices of the country’s troops.

“Enough of this budol! Our soldiers risk their lives every day. They deserve respect, not lies meant to confuse and demoralize them. The budget is there. The law is clear. The funding is secured. This will be implemented—no amount of fake news can change that,” the solon from Luzon said.
