Samsung brings out their A game with Awesome Intelligence

Published Mar 5, 2025 11:38 pm

Samsung has announced the new Galaxy A series. 'A' stands for AI, and they're claiming it represents 'Awesome Intelligence.'  These are the Galaxy A56 and the Galaxy A36.

The Galaxy A series comes with AI features seen in their flagship Galaxy S series. These features include the latest AI updates from Google, including an improved 'Circle to Search' that allows users to search for songs by letting the device listen to the music being played.  Yes, it’s similar to that one popular app that’s been available for years. However, what’s cool here is that you can hum the tune of the song, and the 'Circle to Search' feature will find it.

Of course, the devices get more AI features integrated into the camera, including “Best Face” where AI changes your face in the picture to show your... best face. Samsung says this feature is especially useful for group photos, because among five of your friends, one might be blinking at the wrong moment, another might be looking in the wrong direction, and there is always the typical stuff that everyone loves to laugh at (or with) when revisiting these photos.

At first, I assumed that for 'Best Face' to work, the AI would need to take copious amount of data about a face and then generate a new one that is smiling at the camera with all teeth showing. However, it turns out, you need to set a moving picture. The AI then selects the best looking moment from those frames and incorporates it into the main photo.

There’s also 'Custom Filters', where you can create your own filters. Originally, I assumed it was similar to creating presets— and in a small way, it is quite like the filters you can create. This features works by choosing an image with the right vibe and atmosphere for you, and AI will copy the colors and turn them into a filter. Remember the trend a while back where everyone tried to create the vibe and style of Wes Anderson? The 'Custom Filter' feature essentially simplifies that process.

Here are the specs sheets for each of these phones:

The A56 has a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED, 120Hz, and 1200 nits of brightness. 50MP main camera, partnered with 12MP ultra-wide and 5MP macro. Front camera is 12MP. 45W charging and 5000mAh battery. It’s powered by Samsung’s Exynos 1580 and supports eSIM.

The A36 has a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED, 120Hz, and 1200 nits of brightness. 50MP main camera, coupled with an 8MP ultra-wide and 5MP macro. Front camera is 12MP. 45W  charging and 5000mAh battery. It has a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 and supports eSIM. And 5000mAh battery.

For these phones, Samsung says it will support up to six OS updates along with six years of security upgrades.

We can expect a few new AI updates as well within those six years as new developments are made.
