Senatorial aspirant Manny Pacquiao has vowed to push for a measure that would increase the honoraria of barangay officials and workers as well as provide them with health benefits and security of tenure if he wins in the upcoming elections.

Pacquiao made the pledge when he met barangay officials in Romblon province, where he acknowledged the role of barangay workers and frontliners from the grassroots in delivering government services and maintaining peace and order.

He said barangay officials are the first ones that ordinary Filipinos run to whenever they are in need.

"Sila ang nasa harapan sa laban kontra krimen, sa disaster response, at sa pagtiyak na may tulong ang mga mahihirap (They are on the frontline of fighting crime, handling disaster response and ensuring help for the poor)," he said.

"Oras na para bigyan natin sila ng tamang suporta at proteksyon (It's about time to give them enough support and protection)," he added.
