Hontiveros to nominate Koko Pimentel as a member of CA
Senator Risa Hontiveros on Wednesday, March 5 vowed to nominate Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III as a member of the powerful appointments body when Congress resumes session in June.

“When session resumes on June 2, 2025, I shall nominate Senate Minority Leader Aquilino ‘Koko’ Pimentel III as a member of the Commission on Appointments (CA), representing the Minority in this crucial constitutional body,” Hontiveros said.
“Senator Pimentel, a former Senate President and our current Senate Minority Leader, has the experience to ensure that only the most qualified individuals are appointed to key government positions,” she stressed.
The Commission on Appointments is responsible for vetting and confirming presidential appointments to the Cabinet, Judicial and Bar Council (JBC), foreign service, military, and constitutional commissions.
Hontiveros said that with Pimentel as a member of the CA, and continuing the Senate minority bloc’s representation, “we trust that the CA will remain fair, accountable, and transparent.”
In 2022, Hontiveros questioned the rules governing the election of the members and officers of the CA after the Senate chose Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano as a member representing the minority.
Cayetano has since said he is an independent lawmaker. Cayetano’s election to the CA happened during then Senate president Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri’s term.
Both Pimentel and Hontiveros are the only members of the Senate Minority bloc. At that time, both senators believe Hontiveros deserves to be the minority bloc’s representative in the CA.
Hontiveros argued it is important for bodies such as the CA to have clarity as to the positions of each member.
“This is important for lines of accountability and important to ensure that we have a genuine minority voice,” Hontiveros had said.
