Government prioritizes NAIA decongestion, regional flight distribution for traffic balance

The Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) are working to decongest Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) by promoting regional flight distribution to improve passenger traffic flow nationwide.
DOT Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco and DOTr Secretary Vivencio "Vince" Dizon discussed strategies to ease congestion at NAIA and enhance its capacity to accommodate increasing passenger volumes.
Frasco underscored the need to expand international flight routes, particularly to key European markets such as the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, India, and Australia, to strengthen global connectivity.
Dizon emphasized that redirecting flights to regional airports would reduce the strain on NAIA, enabling other gateways to share the passenger load and enhance overall airport services.
To complement these efforts, more than 11,600 airport personnel have undergone training under the Filipino Brand of Service Excellence (FBSE) program to ensure world-class hospitality for arriving travelers.
Dizon also highlighted the integration of Filipino cultural elements in the design of NAIA Terminal 2.
The introduction of transit tours and the establishment of medical concierges further enhance airport services, reinforcing the country's position as a premier destination for both leisure and medical tourism.
