Bohol governor defends solon wife's signing of impeachment complaint
CEBU CITY – Bohol Gov. Aris Aumentado said there was no betrayal when his wife, Bohol Rep. Vanessa Aumentado, signed the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Aumentado said his wife’s decision to sign the impeachment complaint was to give the Vice President a chance to answer the allegations against her.

“The misconception is that the Vice President has already been removed from office when the House voted for her impeachment. No. She still has to face an impeachment trial in the Senate where she will have the opportunity to answer the allegations hurled against her,” Aumentado said in an interview with dyLA Cebu.
Aumentado said that since it’s election season, it is normal that detractors will use the issue to paint a negative picture for him and his wife.
Just because her wife and Duterte are no longer together in the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats, a political party headed by House Speaker Martin Romualdez, a betrayal was already committed, the governor said.
“My wife joined Lakas because of Vice President Sara. It just so happened that the Vice President left Lakas,” said the governor, a member of the ruling party Partido Federal ng Pilipinas of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
The governor added he and his wife supported the tandem of Marcos and Duterte in the 2022 elections.
“Our support was very solid and we did not expect that this quarrel would happen. Now that they are already fighting, everyone is affected,” the governor said.
Aumentado shrugged off threats that some Boholanos will no longer vote for him because of her wife's decision to vote for Duterte’s impeachment.
He is running for reelection in the midterm elections.
“I cannot do anything if they decide not to vote for me. If I lose because of the unpopular decision, then so be it,” he said.
The governor pointed out that what happened in Congress should not be the basis in the elections.
Aumentado said he believed that he had done enough to deserve another term in the office.
“I served the province with integrity. I took care of the province. I have done what is good for the Boholanos. I may not be perfect but I work hard so I can give Boholanos genuine service,” the governor said.
Aumentado said he will continue to work hard to give his constituents better lives, emphasizing that job creation will continue to be his main thrust.
“Our hope is to give employment to the Boholanos. The poverty incidence in Bohol has gone down and we want to bring it down further which we can do by giving job opportunities and improving their livelihood,” Aumentado said.
