TECNO has brought some very cool innovations this year at MWC 2025.  Their booth had a lot to show, from smartphones to PCs and AI.

Among the things highlighted were the new Spark and CAMON smartphones. But more than that, the event was a showcase of TECNO’s integration of AI into their growing portfolio of devices. For the new Spark and CAMON 40 series, we were shown AI voice enhancers and the removal of background noises during voice calls.

TECNO also showcased some concept phones, including one with a colored e-ink display placed at the back of the phone.  While this isn’t exactly new, as a couple of years ago, some companies experimented with this technology using black and white e-ink displays.  At that time, it was marketed as a way to save battery since e-ink displays consume significantly less power.  However, it was a technology that was still in the development stage.

Fast forward to now, TECNO is picking up this technology and plans to use it for personalization. Besides now having color, TECNO hopes users would use their own photos to become part of the phone’s design. It’s quite interesting, actually.

According to TECNO,  videos, or moving pictures, are still in development, so we shouldn’t expect the video portion of this technology to come out until much later.

So far, TECNO confirms that you cannot use apps with the colored e-ink display, as it is solely meant for personalization.

Other concept phones showcased were the different versions of the CAMON 40 series, that use eco-friendly materials. One of the more interesting ones I’ve seen is the phone made out of used coffee beans. It even smells like it.  Other featured phones change colors based on light, which is pretty cool.

We also got a close look at the Phantom Ultimate 2, TECNO’s trifold phone. However, we weren’t allowed to touch the device; only a representative from TECNO was authorized to showcase it outside of its glass case. Not many details were shared about the phone, likely because it is still in the development stage.

TECNO has added AI in their images as well. Besides the typical ones we’ve seen, such as AI eraser, TECNO includes image enhancers to smooth out pictures and even smaller details that aren’t easily seen. At their booth, TECNO demonstrated that even images taken fifty years ago were enhanced to look as if they were taken only yesterday.

At another section of the TECNO booth, I was really surprised by the G1. It's a mini PC that can accommodate an RTX 40 series GPU. The demo showcased was Wukong, a fairly recent action game, and it ran smoothly on the G1. Did I mention that it’s a mini PC?

Speaking of PCs, TECNO has their Megabook laptops and the interesting thing is they now come with TECNO’s AI and is operable via voice. TECNO says they use multiple LLMs and can be used offline.

TECNO is also developing AR glasses, which can be connected to the phone. Tech companies believe that the future is bright for wearables. So far, we only have smartwatches, earbuds, and rings.  Glasses seem, at least to tech companies, the next logical step to build on. That might mean opening maps in your glasses instead of pulling up your phone every time.

Most of the innovations TECNO has shown at their MWC booth will fall into consumer hands soon. In the meantime, keep on a lookout as we check out the TECNO CAMON 40 series.
