Making her way to the music scene with her self-titled EP "Suyen Imnida", the young indie artist is ready to take on all comers.
During an intimate interview held at UCC Cafe in Quezon City last Feb 21, Suyen shared how she now wants to collaborate with her heroes, Sandwich.
"Kasi growing up isa rin po sila sa mga favorite ko, lalo na po yung 'Two Trick Pony' maganda po siya for me kasi nung time na yun bihira po sa OPM yung ganun na sound," Suyen said.
(Because growing up they were also one of my favorites, especially their album 'Two Trick Pony.' It was quite good for me because at that time it was rare for OPM to use that kind of sound.)
But what propelled her to become a musician?
"I started learning the guitar po when I was ten, that's when I knew I wanted to be a musician," she shared. "By the time I was eleven, naging interested na po ako sa pagsusulat ng songs. Then na-discover ko po yung local indie music, especially Clara Benin, super naging fan po talaga ako ng music niya."

It was her father, who is also a musician, who encouraged her to keep at it.
"Nung nalaman po nung dad ko na nagsusulat na ako, pinagpag front act po nila ako sa mga gigs nila so, more on covers lang po and some of my originals," she shared.

Suyen got more attention playing at a charity event in 2022.
"For some reason, after that, na-i-invite na po ako sa iba't-ibang gigs as front act," she said.

Working with Polyeast's sub-label Filtered music
Following the success of her hit singles “Bente,” “Tampo,” and “Teka Lang! (looper machine),” Suyen is now out with her highly anticipated six-track EP, which she says, delves into themes of teenage punk lifestyle and young love.
The title track, “Suyen Imnida,” serves as an exciting introduction to Suyen as an artist.
"'Suyen Imnida' is a song about me– introduction siya kung saan galing yung name ko, taga saan ako, ano yung mga gusto ko at mga struggles ko sa buhay. Ito usually ang first song ko sa gigs because it actually represents who I am," she shared.

Note that Suyen's EP was produced by Zild Benitez, formerly of IV of Spades with One Click Straight’s Sam Marquez as engineer.
So how does it feel having an EP out?
"This EP has given me a new perspective relating my music. The moment na andito na ako, mas na feel ko na seryoso na siya at di na lang siya hobby so may pressure talaga. But at the same time, since i’m only starting, ine-enjoy ko lang lahat ng moment."
