Fil-American Ethan Alvano spoiled Carl Tamayo’s explosion as the Wonju DB Promy fended off the Changwon LG Sakers, 67-63, for a bounce back victory in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) Monday, March 3.

After both teams struggled offensively in the opening quarter, Alvano found ways and revived the Promy in the following frames to keep themselves afloat and put the Sakers away despite Tamayo’s scoring onslaught.
Alvano poured in 23 points on top of four rebounds, four assists and one steal while Jeong Hyo-Geun and Omari Spellman added 18 and 12 points.
Aside from his 34 points, Tamayo, a former UP Fighting Maroon and Gilas Pilipinas standout, grabbed eight rebounds, two assists and three steals in almost 31 minutes of playing time. Assem Marei backed him up with nine points and 12 rebounds also in a losing cause.
It marked Tamayo’s third 30-point output in the Korean league – his first and second was in January where he achieved it in back-to-back games, scoring 37 and 31 against Seoul (Thunders) and Anyang, respectively.
Alvano, for his personal sheet, etched his fourth consecutive game with 20 points or more.
Wonju now improved its record to 19-22 at sixth while Changwon still sits pretty at second with a 25-16 slate.
Meanwhile, Javi Gomez de Liaño continued his splendid act after leading the Anyang JKJ Red Boosters against the Seoul Samsung Thunders, 89-76, for their second straight triumph.
Coming from his 19-point production in their 70-55 win over Changwon, De Liaño notched his KBL high of 22 points -- his most since joining the club last year.
He also registered four rebounds, one assist, and two steals while Johnny O’Bryant III impressed with 28 points and 11 rebounds as the Red Boosters soared to seventh spot with a 16-25 win-loss card.
The Thunders fell deeper with a 12-28 mark.
