Grandfather injured while trying to rescue grandchild in Tondo fire

A grandfather was injured while trying to rescue his grandchild from their burning home in Barangay 108, Tondo, Manila, early Tuesday morning, March 4.
The fire reportedly started in the house of the injured victim who tried to rescue the child upon hearing that his 10-year-old grandchild might still be inside.
The elderly man explained that when he reached the upper floor, he touched the mattress where his grandchild was thought to be lying, but found that the child was not there.
In his attempt, he suffered burns and wounds on his hands and feet.
He was eventually assisted down the stairs by authorities.
The elderly man revealed that their house had no power supply and they were using a candle which may have sparked the fire.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported that the fire destroyed two houses.
Efforts are underway to assist the affected victims.
The BFP reminded residents to remain cautious of potential fire hazards.
