Taeil (real name Moon Taeil), a former member of K-pop boy band NCT, has been indicted for a sex crime.
The 30-year-old Korean singer and two accomplices were indicted without detention by prosecutors in Seoul, according to an exclusive report by Korean media outlet Hankook Ilbo.
The report stated that on Feb. 28, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office for Women and Children Crime Investigation Division 1 indicted Taeil and two others on charges of aggravated rape under the Korean law Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.

They are accused of sexually assaulting a woman while intoxicated in June last year.
Article 4 (aggravated rape) of the Korean law states that “a person who commits a crime prescribed in Article 297 [rape] of the Criminal Act, carrying any weapon or other dangerous object or jointly with any other persons, shall be punished by imprisonment with labor for an indefinite term or for at least seven year,” according to the Korea Legislation Research Institute.
Under Article 297 (rape) of the Criminal Act, “A person who, by means of violence or intimidation, has sexual intercourse with another shall be punished by imprisonment for a limited term of at least three years.”
In June last year, the Seoul Bangbae Police Station, which received the victim's report, applied for an arrest warrant for the three suspects, but the court dismissed it, citing reasons such as the fact that they admitted to the crime and therefore there was no need for their arrest, according to the news report.
The police summoned Taeil for questioning in August, two months after receiving the report, and sent the complaint to the prosecution.
The three claimed that they did not plan the crime. The two accomplices appeared before the prosecution for questioning.
However, Taeil did not respond to the summons, citing health conditions. Taeil’s side reportedly submitted a medical certificate and an opinion of a lawyer, the news report added.
On Aug. 28 last year, agency SM Entertainment announced Taeil’s removal from NCT.
“We have recently learned that Taeil has been accused in a criminal case related to a sexual crime. While assessing the facts, we recognized the gravity of the matter and decided that he could no longer continue his team activities. After discussing it with Taeil, we decided to have him leave the team,” the agency said.
Taeil was a member of NCT and boy band NCT 127.
