Stallion-Laguna blanks UST, shares lead in PFF Women's League

Chandler McDaniel got Stallion going with goals in the seventh and 20th minutes, while Kala McDaniel also had a brace with goals in the 26th and 67th minutes to spearhead the rout. 

“The first game we still did well, but I thought that we, you know, took the week and … worked on what we needed to do,” said Chandler McDaniel, the Stallion skipper who has had stints with the national team. “And we were able to finish a couple more chances.”

Stallion rose to six points with their second win to share the tournament lead with Kaya, which frustrated the debuting Capital1 Solar Strikers, 3-0, in the other weekend match at Mall of Asia Football Pitch. 

Sierra Castles found the back of the net in the 42nd minute while Pauline San Buenaventura capped the scoring in the 82nd to leave UST winded. 

But the Lady Booters weren’t exactly downhearted by a second straight crushing defeat. 

“So far, on our part, it's going well because we don't really aim for the score, we don't really aim for the win,” said Rica Gerona, the defender who spent time at midfield as part of the Lady Booters’ strategy to solidify the team’s identity. 

“We're aiming for the build-up of the team, we're aiming [to build] our chemistry,” Gerona added. 

Dionesa Tolentin kicked off Kaya’s bid against Capital1 with a goal in the 21st minute and team captain Hali Long, the national squad top defender, doubled the cushion in the 42nd. 

“We played together that’s why we got this win,” Tolentin said. “We followed the system our coach set up and we just added a little of our creativity on the field.”

Alisha del Campo scored the other Kaya goal in extra time.
