Gabriela Party-list Rep. Arlene Brosas on Monday, March 31, said Vice President Sara Duterte's attempt to downplay the evidence against her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, in the latter's crime against humanity charge proved their disregard for human rights and justice.
Brosas condemned the impeached Vice President, as she described her dismissive remarks as insensitive to the families of the victims of extra-judicial killings (EJK) during the previous Duterte administration.
At least 43 EJK cases were cited by the prosecution in its charges against the former leader before the International Criminal Court (ICC) at the Hague in the Netherlands.
"Ang 43 na kaso ay hindi lang basta numero. Ito ay 43 na pamilyang nawalan ng mahal sa buhay, 43 na komunidad na nakaranas ng karahasan, at 43 na patunay na may sistemang pumapatay (The 43 EJK cases aren't just numbers. They represent the 43 families who have lost their loved ones, the 43 communities that experienced violence, and 43 proofs that there's a system of kiling)," she said.
Instead of calling others stupid, Vice President Sara should look at her own issues, particularly her office's anomalous confidential funds, according to Brosas.
"Hindi pwedeng itago ang katotohanan sa likod ng mga insulto at pag-iwas sa tunay na isyu (She cannot hide the truth through insults and avoiding the real issue). Vice President Sara Duterte should address her own controversies before attempting to dismiss serious human rights investigations," she said.
