Candidates sign covenant for peaceful elections in Abra


BANGUED, Abra – The Department of Interior and Local Government, Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong as head of the Cordillera Regional Peace and Order Council, and the Police Regional Office-Cordillera signed a covenant for a peaceful elections at the Abra Provincial Police Office here on March 31.

They pledged their commitment to ensuring an honest, fair, peaceful, and clean election, free from electoral violence, fraud, bribery, and intimidation.

Candidates declared their dedication to upholding the principles outlined in the covenant, which include respect for life, respect for the sovereignty of the people and rule of law, and compliance with all legal requirements and prohibitions related to the electoral process.

PRO-Cordillera chief Police Brig. Gen. David Peredo Jr. asserted their unwavering commitment and emphasized their strong commitment to maintaining peace and order in the region.

This province has been marred by shooting incidents since the start of the election period.

Peredo stressed that anyone responsible for any election-related violence will be held accountable and will face the full force of the law.

According to the Commission on Elections-Abra, three candidates are running for the lone congressional seat, two for governor and two for vice governor, 20 for Sangguinang Panlalawigan in the first and second districts, 51 mayor, 55 for vice mayor, and 454 for Sangguniang Bayan in the 27 towns of Abra.
