8 cops commended for Antipolo road rage shooter's arrest

Police officers arrest "Kenneth" at a checkpoint in Barangay Mayamot following the shooting incident.


Eight police officers of the Antipolo City Police were recognized by the Philippine National Police (PNP) for their successful arrest of the 28-year-old businessman who shot four individuals during a road rage incident in Antipolo City on Sunday, March 30.


PNP chief Gen. Rommel Marbil said the following policemen were awarded with the Medalya ng Kagalingan (Medal of Merit) for their immediate response to the shooting:

- Lieutenant  Orlando Santos
- Chief Master Sergeant Rannel Cruz
- Corporal Kaveen-John Vea
- Corporal Joeban Abendaño
- Corporal Niño Chavez
- Patrolman Reylan De Chavez
- Patrolman Michael Keith Panganiban
- Patrolman John Marc Manahan


According to Rizal Police Provincial Office (Rizal PPO) director Col. Felipe Maraggun, charges of frustrated homicide, violations of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, as well as the election gun ban will be filed against the the suspect identified as "Kenneth." 


Based on the police report, the shooting incident occurred at around 5 p.m. along Marcos Highway in Barangay San Jose after the suspect, who was driving a black Toyota Fortuner, allegedly cut the way dangerously close to a motorcycle rider.


The rider, together with other motorcycle riders, chased after Kenneth and a fistfight ensued near a cafe where they stopped, which led to the shooting.


As of Monday, March 31, all but one of the victims were discharged from the hospital. The rider, who was shot on the head by the suspect, is still undergoing surgery.

 

Kenneth was nabbed at a checkpoint in Masinag, Barangay Mayamot, following a hot pursuit operation.
