A 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck Batangas province and surrounding areas on Sunday evening, March 30, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The earthquake occurred at 7:49 p.m. with its epicenter located 5 kilometers west of Verde Island, Batangas City.
Phivolcs reported that the tremor was felt at Intensity V (strong) in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro.
Meanwhile, it was “slightly felt” (Intensity II) in San Luis and Batangas City in Batangas; Abra De Ilog and Mamburao in Occidental Mindoro; and Pinamalayan in Oriental Mindoro.
The tremor was “scarcely perceptible” (Intensity I) in Sta. Teresita and Tanauan in Batangas; Magallanes in Cavite; Boac in Marinduque; and Victoria in Oriental Mindoro.
Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic in origin, resulting from the movement of an active fault in the area.
No immediate damage or aftershocks are expected.
