Cargo vessel catches fire in Batangas

PCG: 7 crew rescued


NASUGBU, Batangas – A cargo vessel caught fire in the sea of Limbones Island here before dawn on Sunday, March 30.

The Philippine Coast Guard responded to the fire involving MV Cashphill XV.

BRP-Boracay (FPB-2401) was dispatched and rescued seven crew members, including the vessel’s captain, who sustained only minor injuries.

Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Maragondon rescued an additional five crew members who were given medical attention.

BRP Boracay brought the rescued crew members to Pier 15, South Harbor, Manila, where they were turned over to the Coast Guard Medical Dispensary for further medical evaluation.

The PCG is investigating the cause of the fire.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon assured the public of his commitment to ensure maritime safety through all agencies under the  department especially the PCG.

The PCG reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring maritime safety and responding promptly to emergencies at sea.
