SM Entertainment to launch first K-pop training academy SM Universe in Southeast Asia
Korean agency SM Entertainment announced the launch of SM Universe (Singapore), Southeast Asia’s first K-pop training academy, at *SCAPE in June this year.
According to SM Universe, the demand for K-pop globally continues to experience robust growth, with a remarkable 423 percent increase in Spotify streaming of K-pop in Southeast Asia from 2018 to 2023. This surge positions Southeast Asia as one of the world's leading regions for K-pop consumption.
To meet this global demand, SM Universe (Singapore) aims to provide aspiring K-pop artists in Singapore and the broader Southeast Asian region with a unique platform to realize their dreams.

Tapping on SM Entertainment’s strong legacy, the academy, strategically situated in *SCAPE, will provide local and regional K-pop aspirants with first-class comprehensive learning opportunities developed and delivered by K-pop industry veterans.
The academy’s flagship programme is a 21-week intensive training focusing on developing students’ skills in vocals, dance, music production, and overall stage presence.
This culminates in a one-week training in the SM Universe campus in Seoul, where top students will also have the opportunity to audition with South Korean entertainment agencies. Short-term programmes will also be available, offering individuals the chance to enhance their skills.
"SM Universe is excited to expand into Southeast Asia and nurture new talent. This academy will provide aspiring K-pop artists in the region with world-class education and serve as a springboard for their growth as they pursue their dreams on the international stage," said Jaewon Jang, CEO at SM Universe.
Jonathan Ang, director at SM Universe (Singapore) said, "We see strong growth opportunities in Southeast Asia, and the establishment of a Singapore campus demonstrates our commitment to fostering talent and providing unparalleled growth opportunities for young artists in Southeast Asia. We look forward to seeing the talent that will emerge from our academy."
