Arbois, in particular, seeks to eclipse his silver-medal finish in his maiden appearance at the biennial meet in Cambodia two years back after being part of the team for only one month.

"Kung papalarin, sana maibigay sa akin (ang gold medal),” said the Tupi, South Cotabato native.

Arbois surpassed his personal best time by two minutes at the said Tokyo race after clocking 2 hours, 24 minutes and 23 seconds. His time was also faster than his silver performance of 2:33:27 in Cambodia but also the golden feat of 2:32:59 by Indonesia’s Agus Prayogo.

Arbois said he doesn’t have any races lined up so far after Tokyo, but plans to train in Baguio City along with Salaño are in the works.

Salaño, for his part, hopes to recover after failing to achieve his goal of surpassing his personal best in Tokyo, where he timed 2:28:40 -- four minutes short of his personal best of 2:26:29.

He admitted to encountering problems after passing the 35-km stretch where he couldn’t feel his muscles due to the chilly weather that went as low as 9 degrees Celsius.

“First time nangyari sakin yon. Sana maka-recover sa next race,” said Salaño, who is set to compete in the Sydney Marathon in August before the SEAG.

Both Arbois and Salaño participated in the Tokyo Marathon with the support of ASICS, where they wore the latest shoes in the Kumadori Collection Limited Series.
