Robredo in for new fight, throws hat into political ring for Naga mayoral bid

Former vice president Leni Robredo brought her signature pink rallies from the national to the local scene as she began her Naga City mayoralty bid on Friday, March 28, during the kickoff rally for the local elections.

Initially wooed by her supporter to run as senator in the May 2025 midterm polls, Robredo instead announced her bid for Naga City mayor in October last year.

On Instagram, her official Instagram page showed her and her slate, An Bagong Team Naga, at the Archbishop’s Palace where they heard the Holy Mass before the events to start her campaign.

“Before the vibrant glow expected at tonight’s kick-off events, #MayorLeni and #AnBagongTeamNaga began their day with a Mass (rose emoji) #IkaAkoKitaAnNaga,” her post read.

At the team’s market run at the Naga City People’s Mall, Robredo and her slate—Camarines Sur Rep. Gabby Bordado Jr. as her running mate—interacted with vendors, senior citizens, and local residents.

She assured them that the potential renovations for the People’s Mall will be done to prevent disruptions in their businesses.

The team also held a program at the mall’s activity center. There, they presented their platforms and talked about their team’s diverse backgrounds in law, health care, law enforcement, and public administration.

After, the slate had a color run for the supporters and held proclamation rally  at the Biak na Bato in Barangay Tabuco, where the former vice president asked pink shirt-clad Bicolanos not only to support her but also her entire slate because they were selected through a rigorous and long process of consultations.

"Ngunyan lang kamo nakahiling rally na mayong political speech? (Have you ever seen a rally without political speech?),” Robredo said.

She also called on her supporters to vote not just for her but for the entire slate: “Kung tatabangan nindo ako, ang pakiulay ko anduyugan man tabi ang bilog na Team Naga (If you will help me, help the entire Team Naga as well)."

Speaking in Bikolano, she campaigned for Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Party-list and its first nominee, former senator Leila de Lima, as well as for senatorial candidates Kiko Pangilinan and Bam Aquino.

Aquino served as her campaign manager both in 2016 and 2022, while Pangilinan was her running mate in the 2022 presidential elections.

The rally ended with two signature songs that made her supporters cry again - Rivermaya's "Liwanag sa Dilim" and Nica del Rosario's "Rosa”.
