The Bangsamoro Affairs Service of the Quezon City government conducted an ‘IFTAR’ program for the 101 Muslim persons deprived of liberty (PDL) in the Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory (QCJMD) to mark the observance of ‘Ramadan, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said.
Accompanied by the legal counsels from the various regional trial courts in the city, the Bangsamoro Affairs Services gave a heart warming IFTAR program for the Muslim residents of QCJMD.
‘IFTAR’ is the evening meal that breaks the fast during Ramadan, the Islamic holy month.
The program started with the short words of wisdom from Chaplain Sanggakala Pangiran, who shared the teachings from the Quran.
“IFTAR program (feeding program) formally took place afterwards. Closing the event, a solemn and simultaneous prayer (Salah) was conducted led by all honorable guests,’’ the BJMP noted.
This event was made possible through the supervision of personnel of the Welfare and Development Section together with the QCJMD with the guidance from warden Supt. Warren Geronimo.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is observed by Muslim Brothers worldwide as a month of fasting (Sawm) to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Muhammad according to Islamic belief.
This annual observance is regarded as one of the five pillars of Islam where the month lasts between 29-30 days based on the visual sightings of the crescent moon, according to numerous biographical accounts compiled in the hadiths.
Also, the Taha Foundation Philippines, accompanied by the Philippine Army, conducted a heartfelt gift-giving activity for the Muslim residents of the Quezon City Jail Female Dormitory (QCJFD).
The event commenced with a short program, showcasing the talents of the Kyusifed Performers and the spirit of unity and compassion among attendees.
“The event not only provided much-needed support and relief but also amplified the message of hope and inclusivity within the facility,’’ the QCJFD continued.
