Ateneo continued its winning ways after beating Adamson, 25-21, 19-25, 25-16, 25-17, to go three in a row in the UAAP Season 87 men’s volleyball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Saturday, March 29.

The Blue Eagles shrugged off a second-set hiccup and dominated the next two frames to clinch the victory that secured them the solo third spot with a 6-3 record.
“Happy ako kasi kahit ilang sets pa yan basta panalo is panalo sa akin kasi talagang tinrabaho yan ng players,” said Ateneo head coach Vince Mangulabnan.
“Honestly, no'ng unang two sets lousy ‘yong galaw ng isa’t isa so sinabihan ko lang sila na mag-smile sila kasi malaking tulong 'yan and don’t be encouraged kasi nawala kami sa focus nung second set [and] in the latter part ng game, we were able to overcome ‘yung ganoong challenges,” Ken Batas added.
Batas took charge anew for Ateneo with his 20-point output built on 17 attacks, two blocks and one ace along with seven excellent digs and 11 excellent receptions.
Jian Salarzon also dazzled after pouring 19 points off 17 kills and two blocks with eight excellent digs and 13 excellent receptions. Lorenzo Gutierrez had 27 excellent sets for the Eagles.
Adamson, for its part, dropped to 2-7 – tied with University of the Philippines – at sixth despite Jude Aguilar’s 16-point effort.
Meanwhile, University of Santo Tomas held its ground and overcame Noel Kampton’s career-high 30-point eruption for De La Salle University, 25-22, 25-22, 16-25, 25-22.
