One Cebu backs Revilla for senator

The powerhouse One Cebu party endorsed reelectionist Sen. Bong Revilla Jr. as the local campaign period kicked off on Friday, March 28.

Revilla visited the towns of Barili and Sibonga during the campaign trail and earned the backing of local officials and the province's influential political leaders belonging to One Cebu.

Revilla thanked Cebuanos for the warm welcome.

“It’s nice to be back here in Cebu. Salamat sa mainit na pagtanggap...Kagabi nasa Cordova kami, at ito ngayon...Kahapon lang andon ako sa Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, at dito, pero okay pa ako, may boses pa ako, kaya pa."

(It’s nice to be back here in Cebu. Thank you for the warm welcome... Last night we were in Cordova, and here I am now... Just yesterday, I was in Nueva Ecija and Bulacan, and here I am, still okay, still with a voice, and still going strong)

Revilla is among the top senatorial bets in recent surveys.

As the elections draw near, Revilla revealed that he will be going around the country more and has plans to visit 16 towns in Cebu.

“I hope I can make it until halfway, but I’ll be going to Iloilo. I’ll be back tonight for the main proclamation,” he said.

Revilla’s upcoming campaign sorties include stops in Mandaue City and nearby areas.

“Tomorrow, I’ll be in Mandaue, and maybe Consolacion too. I was also invited by Consolacion,” Revilla said.

Discussing his key legislative proposals, Revilla said he will focus on the needs of senior citizens and farmers, two groups he aims to help if given again a seat in the Senate.

“We’re pushing for several important laws, including universal pension for our senior citizens, and we’ll lower the senior citizen age from 60 to 56 so they can start receiving discounts earlier,” Revilla said.

Revilla thanked people for their support in surveys.

“I’m thankful to the Filipino people, and they are always paying attention to me,” he said.

Gov. Gwen Garcia, head of One Cebu, welcomed Revilla when he attended the party’s proclamation rallies in various towns in southern Cebu.
