March 28 is celebrated as Rodrigo Roa Duterte Day in Davao City

DAVAO CITY – This city celebrates March 28 of each year as Rodrigo Roa Duterte Day in honor of the contributions and leadership of the former Mayor and Chief Executive to this city and the country.

“Rodrigo Roa Duterte is acknowledged as a living hero of the republic for his great contributions to the nation's development by uplifting the lives of the Filipino people. It is important to highlight his life and work to inspire the people,” Resolution No. 01037-23, Series of 2023, unanimously passed by the Davao City Council on March 28, 2023, said.

Former presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that organizers of gatherings celebrating Duterte’s 80th birth anniversary aim to achieve a new Guinness World Record.

Supporters of the former Chief Executive here and worldwide stayed awake to attend the mañanita for Duterte on his 80th birthday.

Before midnight, a crowd gathered outside his house at Doña Luisa Subdivision here to welcome his birth anniversary.

A specially designed nine-layered cake with an eagle on top made by the Mindanao Culinary and Cake Decorating Society was displayed on Roxas Ave. here on Friday afternoon as the program for Duterte’s birthday started.

Thousands of people from different parts of the country are expected to gather in this city from March 28 to 29 for the event.

Duterte is detained at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands for alleged crimes against humanity.
