Police Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky, Police Regional Office-6 (Western Visayas) chief, was assigned to lead PRO-NIR in a concurrent capacity.
Department of Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Nestor Sanares, representing DILG Secretary Juanito Victor Remulla, led the ceremony at the Acacia Hotel here.
Police Lt. Gen. Robert Rodriguez, PNP deputy chief for operations, represented PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil.
Wanky, who is not new to Negros Island as he headed the Bacolod City Police Office in 2017, said that he will hit the ground running and plans to visit Negros Oriental and Siquijor.
He said that they will check police facilities, personnel, and equipment on the island to enable them to determine the necessary adjustments they will make.
Wanky said that he will stay here for now. His deputies have been tasked to supervise Panay Island and Wanky will travel back to Iloilo once he finishes his work here.
He said that the PRO-NIR will temporarily share an office space with the Visayas Area Command inside the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office headquarters here.
Wanky thanked the DILG and the PNP for giving him the privilege to be the temporary steward of the newly re-established police regional office.
