Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala's historic run at the 2025 Miami Open is one of the biggest victories of a Filipino, Malacañang said after she made yet another stunning win on Thursday, March 27.

Malacañang congratulated Eala for her historic wins in Miami, saying the President is proud of her.
"Isa po ito sa napakalaking tagumpay ng isang Pilipino. Ang Malacañang po, ang Palasyo po, ang Pangulo po ay ipinagmamalaki ang katulad po ng ating mga Pilipino na nagbibigay po ng karangalan sa Pilipinas (This is a huge victory of a Filipino. The Malacañang, the Palace, the President is proud of Filipinos who bring honor to the Philippines)," Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said in briefing on Thursday, March 27.
"So, congratulations sa ating kababayan at hindi pa po dito nagtatapos ang ating pasasalamat sa kababayan natin na nagbibigay ng karangalan sa Pilipinas (So, congratulations to our fellow Filipino, and our gratitude to Filipinos who bring honor to the Philippines does not end here)," Castro added.
Eala has been making history in the international scene as he continued to deliver stunning wins against women's tennis giants.
On March 27 (early Thursday, Philippine time), Eala defeated five-time Grand Slam champion and world No. 2 Iga Swiatek, 6-2, 7-5, to march into the semifinals of the Miami Open.
It was Eala's third win over tennis giants. Prior to the quarterfinals, the 19-year-old Filipina tennis ace ousted 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko and reigning Australian Open winner Madison Keys.
With her recent win, Eala became the first Filipina to reach the WTA1000 semifinal.
She will face world No. 4 Jessica Pegula at the tournament's semifinal.
