Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial candidate ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Erwin Tulfo made a profound appeal to his fellow Filipinos ahead of the observance of Holy Week next month.

“May problema pong pinagdadaanan ang ating bayan. Alam niyo ho naman ito kung ano (Our country is going through a problem. You know what this is),” Tulfo said on the sidelines of Quezon City 1st district Rep. Arjo Atayde's recent State of the District Address (SODA) at SM North Edsa Skydome.

“Ang pakiusap ko lang po muna, ipanalangin po natin ang ating mga lider ngayon at noon, na bigyan sila ng malakas na pangangatawan, malampasan ang mga pagsubok na kanilang dinaraanan ngayon,” said the popular broadcaster-turned-lawmaker.

(My appeal at this time is, let's pray for our leaders past and present, that they would be given strength, that they be able to hurdle the challenges they're going through right now.)

"At ipagdasal po natin ang ating bayan na muling magkaisa (And let's also pray for our nation to be united once again)," Tulfo added.

Tulfo, a deputy majority leader in the House of Representatives, has consistently called for unity among Filipinos in the ongoing campaign period.

During the SODA, the senatorial aspirant congratulated Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and Atayde for making their city progressive and for always being there for their constituents in times of uncertainties.

Running under the administration ticket, Tulfo is a consistent topnotcher in pre-election surveys.

Some of the plans he intends to carry out once he gets into the Senate include a review of legislations calling for monthly allowance for senior citizens subject to the availability of funds, and for the companies to accept elderly applicants for certain gainful work.

Tulfo also promised to address the plight of the barangay officials, who should be given standardized salary. This should be taken from the annual budget of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), he said.

The congressman also reiterated his call for all basic food items to have a suggested retail price (SRP) in order to prevent certain businessmen from manipulating their prices.

The mid-term elections will take place on May 12.
