This, after the 31-year-old Pegula made her move by overcoming 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu, 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-2, for her third Miami Open semifinal appearance.

Match is set not before 8:30 a.m. on Friday, March 28 (Philippine time) at the Stadium -- the same court where the 19-year-old Filipina tennis sensation knocked off five-time Grand Slam champion and world No. 2 Iga Swiatek, 6-2, 7-5, in the quarterfinals hours prior to Pegula’s victory.

Pegula may not be a Grand Slam winner like Eala’s previous victims, 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko and reigning Australian Open titlist Madison Keys, but her impressive resume showed she was one dangerous opponent.

The American ranked as high as No. 3 late in 2022 and was a finalist at last year’s US Open where she lost the title to Aryna Sabalenka. Prior to that, she had five quarterfinal Grand Slam finishes -- three at the Australian Open.

A former world No. 1 doubles player, Pegula has collected seven singles titles and seven doubles titles on the WTA Tour, winning three WTA1000 titles in singles and two in doubles.

Pegula, who earned an opening-round bye, has dropped a set twice in the tournament -- against Anna Kalinskaya, 6-7 (3), 6-2, 7-6 (2), in her Round of 32 match, and against Raducanu.

She opened her campaign with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Bernarda Pera, and dominated Marta Kostyuk in the Last 16.

Prior to the Miami Open, she is also coming off a Round 16 finish at Indian Wells.
