Container truck hits, runs over woman on her way to hospital in Pasig

A 62-year-old woman died on the spot after she was hit by a container truck while crossing C. Raymundo Avenue in Barangay Maybunga, Pasig City on Monday afternoon, March 24.

According to the authorities, the elderly woman was crossing the street on her way to a nearby hospital when the traffic light suddenly turned red.

The driver of the truck did not see the victim in front of the vehicle and hit her, pinning her beneath the wheels of the truck.

Police officers immediately responded to the incident together with medical personnel from the barangay. They declared the senior citizen dead on the spot.

Officials added that the victim was not a resident of the barangay and was only there for a check-up consultation at the hospital on the opposite side of the road.

The 41-year-old truck driver is currently under the custody of the Pasig City Police.

The police said the driver tried to offer a settlement with the victim's family. However, they refused it and proceeded to file charges against the driver.

He is now facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
