DAVAO CITY – The Lidasan clan condemned on Thursday, March 27, the ambush and brutal killing of Commission on Elections official Bai Maceda Lidasan Abo and her husband, Datu Jojo Abo, in Barangay Makir in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte on Wednesday, March 26.

The couple were on their way to Bai's office in Dalican onboard a Sports Utility Vehicle when unidentified gunmen ambushed them.
Their son, James, confirmed the tragic incident to Bandera News TV in Cotabato City.
In a statement, the Lidasan clan described the incident as a cowardly act of violence. They said that prior to the attack, Bai told them that she received threats, "an ominous warning that tragically became reality."
They said Bai was known for her integrity and commitment to ensuring fair democratic processes and called on the authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation to ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.
“We must uphold peace and allow the rule of law to prevail. This heinous crime must not go unpunished,” the Lidasan clan said.
The family urged the Bangsamoro government to take decisive steps in protecting those who serve the people and upholding the gains of the peace process.
They also called on the Moro community, civil society, and religious leaders to unite in seeking justice and condemning violence.
"Bai Maceda and Datu Jojo’s deaths will not be in vain. Their legacy of service and dedication to our people will endure, and we shall pursue justice with unwavering resolve. Justice for Bai Maceda and Datu Jojo Abo. End impunity in the Bangsamoro," they said.
The Hakbang ng Maisug-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao also denounced the brutal attack.
It said that such reprehensible act of violence is not only an attack on innocent lives but also a direct assault on democracy, justice, and the rule of law in the Bangsamoro region.
"This tragedy underscores the alarming state of peace and security in our communities, where the PNP reports an average of two killings per day, a harrowing statistic that exposes the failure of those in power to protect their people," the Maisug-Bangsamoro said.
"Despite years of peace negotiations and pledges of progress, our land remains stained with blood, and impunity reigns. Enough is enough. We demand immediate justice for Bai Maceda and Datu Jojo Abo," the group added.
