The application period for the SM Foundation College Scholarship is here.

If you're an incoming freshman aiming to get a scholarship, it's time to get your ducks in a row. The process might seem overwhelming, but with right preparation, you can stand out and increase your chances of success.

As a proud SM scholar rooting for future iskos and iskas, here are five essential tips to help you shine:

  1. Start early. It's never too soon to plan

One of the biggest mistakes applicants make is waiting until the last minute. Rushing through the process can lead to errors, missing documents, and unnecessary stress. To avoid this, start early. Review all the requirements carefully and make a checklist of the necessary documents. Planning ahead ensures you don’t miss any crucial details.

2. Organize your documents before submission
Incomplete or incorrect documents can delay your application or even lead to disqualification. Double-check the requirements—school records, recommendation letters, proof of eligibility, and other necessary paperwork. Keep everything organized in a folder and ensure they are up to date. A well-prepared application speaks volumes about your commitment and responsibility.

3. Brush up on your interview skills
If you're shortlisted, you may be invited for an interview. While this can feel intimidating, see it as an opportunity to reinforce why you deserve the scholarship. Practice speaking confidently about your aspirations, achievements, and why you want to be part of the SM Foundation family. Stay composed, be yourself, and let your passion shine through.

4. Perfect your personal statement

As you move forward with the scholarship in your scholarship application journey, SM Foundation will get to know you further. With this, your personal statement is your chance to show who you are beyond your grades. SM Foundation values individuals who have the potential to make a positive impact on society.

Write from the heart, but make sure to focus on your goals, how the scholarship will help you achieve them, and why you're a good fit for the program. Once you’ve written your essay, proofread it thoroughly to ensure clarity and avoid mistakes—this is your time to shine!

5. Stay positive and give it your best shot

With technology, applying for the SM Foundation College Scholarship has become more accessible. But remember, this is a one-time opportunity for incoming freshmen—make it count! Approach the process with a positive mindset, take your time, and give it your all. Believe in yourself, and trust that your hard work will pay off.

Applying for a scholarship may seem daunting, but with preparation and determination, you can succeed. Best of luck, future scholars—you’ve got this.
