According to Bloomberg, entities associated with Razon bought the Jack Nicklaus signature golf course, as well as the hotel on the property located in the Cape Winelands from a company controlled by shareholders that include Ryk Neethling, a South African businessman and Olympic gold medalist in swimming.

A government notice dated March 20 said the nation’s antitrust authority approved the purchase.

A social media post from the Pearl Valley Golf Course in December actually announced Razon as its new owner.

“A New Era for Pearl Valley Golf. We’re excited to announce that Pearl Valley Golf has officially entered a new era of growth and opportunity under the ownership of Mr. Enrique Razon Jr.,” the post read.

“Mr. Razon, a highly respected global entrepreneur, brings a wealth of experience and a passion for creating world-class destinations. His commitment to enhancing Pearl Valley’s legacy ensures a bright future for our Club and its members.

“We look forward to an exciting chapter for our Club,” it added.

Razon is the chairman and CEO of the Manila-listed company International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI), which in 2023 won a bid to develop South Africa’s port of Durban.

He also owns The Country Club in Canlubang, Laguna and is president of the Pilipinas Golf Tournaments Inc., which oversees the Philippine Golf Tour.
